Some History

The Bible Institute of Hawai`i began in 1972 as an answer to the prayers from Hawai`i’s people for biblical training in the islands. God answered these prayers through the Lutheran Bible Institute of Seattle when they formed an extension “campus” at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Waikiki. In 1983, Bible Institute became independent from the Lutheran denomination. Today, BIH is an evangelical, trans-denominational institution serving the local Christian community by conducting classes in churches across Hawaii.

Rev. Donald W. Baron, BIH’s first Director and faculty, was instrumental in getting the ministry off the ground. His passion for God’s Word and his vision to see the local congregations strengthened through lay training, laid a solid foundation for the institute.
